This is a view across the harbor from behind Officer's Row in Fort Hancock in Sandy Hook taken just before sunset.

WOW! I went to see the larger size, too, and this is simply stunning. I really love this -- the mood, the light, the simplicity and strength of the composition. One of my favorite photos I've seen on Am3 in a long time.

@Monique: If only that were possible. Most of the houses are boarded up and basically abandoned. The military base in no longer active and the Parks Dept. now owns it. They don't have the money to fix up all of the homes and don't want to sell to developers. There are only a few of the homes inhabited and I believe they are Parks Dept. employees and their families. Perhaps one or two maybe more of the other homes are owned by organizations. I know the NJ Audubon Society owns one of them. It is a shame to see these grand homes in this beautiful location not being put to good use. I do understand the desire to keep them out of the hands of developers but there has to be something that can be done to preserve and restore them.
