NJIO 15th Anniversary Concert IIIPosted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 27 May 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. This is the third in the series from the NJIO's (New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra) 15th Anniversary Concert. This is Joe Gluck the NJIO's conductor. Joe has had a long relationship with the orchestra. This is his first year as conductor. For a much larger more detailed view go here. See my new SLIDESHOW page. Your comments are very much appreciated. I know how much time and effort it takes to visit and leave comments. I really do appreciate them. Sergei Z from Türi, EstoniaNice work! It shows the moment of the concert. Feels like I'm sitting there and listening this concert! And I very surprised how clear image is with ISO3200! 27 May 2009 6:12am Hidalgo from Herunen, FinlandGreat photo. I am not surprized about it how good photos can be taken with ISO 3200. Nikon D700 is a quality camera. I am using Nikon D300 and using ISO 3200 inside many churches, because there is meagerly light and all this without any problem of quality. 27 May 2009 7:53am Marcie from United StatesFantastic! Love how you captured the conductor with such clarity..whereas the orchestra fades into background blurr. A 27 May 2009 12:14pm kooshan from karaj, Iranwow D700 i am hoping to get one ,, nice smooth contrasty light great one ,,, 27 May 2009 3:28pm Ronnie 2¢ from London, United KingdomISO 3200 . . who would have known ? Impressive. 27 May 2009 3:37pm Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandGreat photo ... the movement in the conductor's hand is great and the DOF and lighting are excellent. Must have been very difficult in those light conditions. 27 May 2009 4:01pm @Monique: Thanks...It was a lot easier than what I've dealt with in the past when I've done photos of this orchestra. The venue had decent stage lighting and the D700 of course was a huge help in handling the high ISO I had to shoot in. With my D200 I was limited to ISO 1600 and that sometimes was pushing it but this camera...wow...no comparison! I really came away with more images than ever before. Too many actually since I had to wade through them all and narrow it down. Monique from Koh Samui, ThailandOh wow yes ... now I see it ... ISO 3200 and it looks really great! Still have to try the high ISO on my D300 under these circumstances. 27 May 2009 4:20pm @Monique: I think the D300 performs pretty well with higher ISO's too. You should give it a try. For these events I shoot with auto ISO and set the max ISO to 3200 and the minimum shutter speed to 1/100th of a second (no tri-pod allowed). The lighting on a stage is surprisingly varied in a relatively small area and slightly different angles. One shot could be at ISO 800 and the next up to ISO 3200 and anything in between. I am very comfortable and confident that I will get reliable and decent shots with those parameters. ISO 6400 is also do-able and gets images equivalent to ISO 1600 on my D200 but I have not had the need to go that high generally speaking. john4jack from Corvallis, Oregon, United StatesSuperb portrait. Marvelous selective focus. (Up to 1600 and certainly up to 800, the D300 performs very well, but it ain't a D700.) 27 May 2009 4:33pm @john4jack: Thanks...that is good to know. The D300 has to be a lot better at that high ISO than the D200. vu@granby - Wolfgang from Granby, Québec, CanadaYour photo transmits perfectly the intensity & concentration! 27 May 2009 5:31pm Emilio Garcia from Pleasanton, United StatesAbsolutely beautiful portrait taken under difficult conditions. Beautiful DOF and great motion effect on the hands of the conductor. Just great! You sure are pushing your camera to its limits and making great use of it. 27 May 2009 5:44pm Alun Lambert from cheshire, United Kingdomthese new cameras can shoot at such high iso, my canon 5D is still really good up 4000, i love it. 27 May 2009 6:52pm Monte Stevens from Westerville, United StatesWow, I'm impressed with the image in its composition and quality. Well done! 27 May 2009 10:08pm K.B.R from SwitzerlandReally, a picture very pro, the light is very fine measured, bravo. 27 May 2009 11:47pm Tracy from La Selva Beach, United StatesFabulous! I love the slight movement of his hands---Just perfect! 28 May 2009 1:14am jeff (aka dogilicious) from Millerstown, PA, United StatesVery well captured. Nice light! 28 May 2009 1:19am John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesExcellent capture, great lighting and love the side profile of the conductor. Stunning work! 28 May 2009 2:35am Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaI love the moment you froze. Beautifully done. 28 May 2009 3:38am dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesan amazing shot Laurie!! the light and focus are perfect!! very alive indeed!! 28 May 2009 4:10am One from Açores, PortugalWhat beautiful image ! Perfect setting and good framing. 28 May 2009 4:16am Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainPerfect shot, luminous, sharp and expressive. I like the movement of hands 28 May 2009 4:46am Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesI think you know that I am a real fan of your work Laurie. This is another fine example of good photography, evidenced by the great shadow detail (in the conductor's coat). Skin tones are spot on as well. Can I ask what program you use for monitor calibration? 28 May 2009 11:12am @Craig: Thanks..I just use a HUEY from Pantone. It is a "cheap" one. I got it in 2006 and never upgraded. It works pretty well for me with my desktop (mac power PC) and monitor (ViewSonic). I tried running it on my macbook and it didn't work properly...probably just needs a software update for the Intel Macs or something like that. I didn't care too much about that since I don't edit on my macbook. Rehim from Baneh -Kurdistan, IranWow.. very nice idea! i like music very much!!An interesting shot. 28 May 2009 11:45am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaNice capture Laurie! The movement of his hands, your depth of field choice and the stillness of the rest of the frame are great! Nice control of the light too! 28 May 2009 12:33pm peter from new york, United Statesa brilliant capture laurie! the master at his craft : ) 28 May 2009 2:54pm @peter: LOL...thanks...I'm hardly a master. :) Diane Schuller from Hythe, Canadawonderfully captured and with such clarity. I'm so surprised at the lighting. I sure like that imaginary diagonal line created by the band members in shallow dof , the conductor's hands and then himself. 29 May 2009 3:49am Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesThanks for the explanation on the Heuy Pantone calibrator! I have a Huey Pro which I have not been able to get to work with my Viewsonic LCD monitor for the past year. However, this afternoon I finally figured out that my graphics card was interfering with the calibration device. After replacing the graphics card, I had a successful calibration! Thanks for your input Laurie! 29 May 2009 8:29am @Craig: No Problem...When I first got my HUEY I had some issues but it was a matter of getting a firmware update installed. Graphics cards can be expensive...that doesn't sound like fun! Which graphics card did you have and which one did you get? I have the NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE, and my comp is 3 years old now. I have the Viewsonic LCD VA2012wSERIES: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color. The monitor is a little newer about 2 1/2 years old. Craig from Vacaville, California, United StatesI just went back to the graphics card that was originally installed in my HP computer (Intel I believe). My old graphics monitor was an NVIDIA GeForce as well. But the only reason I was using it was to run two monitors. Since I don't really have a need for two monitors any longer, I didn't have a problem going back to the old one. I didn't actually check for updates, perhaps that would have done the trick. My Viewsonic is the VA2235 its resolution is 1680 X 1050 as well. 29 May 2009 12:19pm @Craig: It took me a bit of toiling to get it straightened out. Trouble tickets etc. with Pantone. They sent me the update before it was actually available online. It had more to do with being Mac in my case. Something about Universal Binary code or some such thing. I'm not terribly computer savvy. But they said something about it being more stable with Intel based macs (which were just coming to market when I got my Power PC which is a G5 not Intel). At any rate the update fixed it and it was easy to install. I was going to upgrade to the pro-version calibration tool at some point. Hopefully I won't have any issues if I do...I'm thinking maybe I should just leave well enough alone...lol...I hate computer issues! I feel totally helpless when they come up which is why "I am a mac"...lol...no major computer issues! I had gotten fed up with PC's and took the plunge to mac in 2006...now we have 3 macs and one PC which is new (Christmas) and my son is always complaining about it...we offered to get him a mac but he wanted PC...lol. He uses my macbook for school more than his PC laptop...grrrrr! Rabbit from Richmond, United StatesNice in the moment shot. I feel like I can hear the music. 30 May 2009 2:54am Sugata from Newark, United StatesPerfect shot! Such clarity in such low light conditions is really amazing! 30 May 2009 3:30am dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaWonderful capture. It's only when you see images like this that you realize just how quickly musicians hands move, even though in real life they seem so slow and controlled. 30 May 2009 8:48am JamesC from portland, United StatesEcho all said here, excellent camera in a pro hand's makes beautiful images. 1 Jun 2009 6:14am |
