FragilePosted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 17 January 2009 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio. This is something I found in the barn from the previous post. This is exactly as I found it, exactly how I first saw it. It made me sad to look at those pleading eyes looking up at me. I was reminded of the children's story of the 'Velveteen Rabbit' and this quote: "...once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand." from 'The Velveteen Rabbit' For a much larger view go here. See my new SLIDESHOW page. Your comments are very much appreciated. I know how much time and effort it takes to visit and leave comments. I really do appreciate them. I make every effort to reply to questions but sometimes I miss one or two and I apologize for that. It's all soooooooooooo moving and such a tribute to John. We lost a son on 3/22/08, at the age of 45, so we feel for John's family and friends. A life cut short is a sad thing, but as a friend said, "a younger angel." 18 Jan 2009 12:14am @Judy: Oh Judy I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. Thank you so much for your very kind words here on my site. Great capture Laurie! 18 Jan 2009 12:41pm eric from Francele temps qui passe, une photo pleins de souvenirs, mais aussi pleins de decouverte , bravo !!!!!!!!!!!! 18 Jan 2009 1:34pm john4jack from Corvallis, United StatesPS - "The Velveteen Rabbit" is a great story. Back in the 60s, it was a favorite of my kids, and dad too. 18 Jan 2009 2:05pm Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesI honestly think that what happened here was nothing really tragic but rather just a matter of the child outgrowing his or her toys and this is where they were discarded. There was an empty house across the street and it looked like a lot of what had once been in the house had been stored or discarded here when the people left. There had probably been an old bag or box of once cherished stuffed toys and whatnot that was in the old barn and the contents were somehow strewn around the barn over time and that is probably how the little Teddy Bear came to be there. This scene spoke to me of how fast childhood passes and how this once loved toy was discarded like so much trash when the child outgrew it. That thought evoked a bittersweet feeling in my heart much like when I stumble across the bag of my kids' old stuffed toys in the attic space. I always get a little sad thinking how fleeting their childhood was now that they are moving into their adult years. This discarded Teddy Bear reminded me of that and the story of the 'Velveteen Rabbit'. 18 Jan 2009 4:32pm Marcie from United StatesSomething so very powerful and moving about this image. Tragedy or not..the truth is that children grow into adults and leave their innocence and youth and childhood toys behind. Wonderful capture! 18 Jan 2009 7:18pm Jose Antonio from Barcelona, SpainUna imagen muy tierna, llena de recuerdos y añoranzas. Gracias por tu visita y comentario. 18 Jan 2009 8:26pm Matthew from Spokane, United States"All these toys.. they make me want to cry," Polar Express... 18 Jan 2009 9:48pm Viewfinder from Bradenton, United StatesSweet.
