Garden BenchPosted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 6 November 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. This is another shot from Breuer Hill - built c. 1800 in Princeton's Battlefield-Stony Brook Settlement Historic District. I just love benches. I do spend more time photographing them than actually sitting on them. View a much larger version here. See my new SLIDESHOW page. Your comments are very much appreciated. I know how much time and effort it takes to visit and leave comments. I really do appreciate them. I make every effort to reply to questions but sometimes I miss one or two and I apologize for that. If you really need me to get an answer to you quickly, the best way is to use the CONTACT button at the bottom of the page. I post the same photos here as on Capturethisphotography.com but they are higher res. and landscape orientation shots are larger size. I post only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

dobbino from Cape Town, South AfricaAgree wholeheartedly about the benches - and this one looks like a really old but real quality one. Lovely contrasting colours with the sun adding that little extra touch. 6 Nov 2008 5:24am jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandLooks like a nice sunny place to have a rest. 6 Nov 2008 5:48am Brian from Lynnwood, United StatesThe bench stand out well and the composition shows a lot of peace! 6 Nov 2008 5:49am MadScientist from Düsseldorf, GermanyWhat a nice place! I like the dark greens and that darkness behind the tree. But the bench really make this photo. 6 Nov 2008 8:32pm Jasp from Plymouth, United KingdomWe often have benches donated by local people here... usually because they spent much time enjoying the view and leave a bench a remembrance. 6 Nov 2008 9:04pm @Jasp: I think the same is true here. I did see plaques on several of the pieces of garden furniture but I didn't read them. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomI'd love to be sitting under that tree in right now. Beautiful shot Laurie. 7 Nov 2008 12:17am amos from Jerusalem, IsraelThe shading is great.. Shows how great lighting can make any picture much better. 7 Nov 2008 12:36am akarui from Kagoshima, Japan2 strong archetypes beautifully put together, a bench and a tree. 7 Nov 2008 1:10am Jeffster from Long Island, United StatesVery nice lighting. The larger image looks a little sharper than the smaller one (compression)? 7 Nov 2008 2:13am @Jeffster: Thanks...AM3 doesn't load the same quality image that I upload. It reduces the quality and file size. I now upload a different size version on AM3 from my other blog. AM3 max size seems to be 800 on the horizontal. On my other blog I set the size and recently changed it to accept 1050 on the horizontal. But no matter what the size and quality of image I upload to AM3 it is then altered by AM3 to a lower quality. It didn't seem at all noticeable when I posted the same size images to both sites even though the AM3 image that appears is lower res than what I uploaded to both. Having said all that, it seems more likely to me that it is just easier to see the finer detail in a larger image. If you look at my archives from both sites before I changed the size format on my original blog, I cannot see any real difference between the two even though the file is altered during upload to AM3 and the one on my original site is the same resolution and quality that I upload directly to my FTP server. JJ from Jersey City, United StatesI to like shots of benches and this is a great one, lovely lighting and colors, looks like a nice place to sit and relax 7 Nov 2008 2:15am John Maslowski from Dallas,PA, United StatesSuch solitude, a lovely peaceful looking place. The effect of that on me, watching this picture is going to sit on the bench. Really inviting!. 7 Nov 2008 4:14am Michael Rawluk from Prince George, CanadaWhat a sweet place to sit with a book and a cup of coffee. 7 Nov 2008 4:50am Siam from Chaingrai, ThailandThe wood for this to rest, or check méditier under a tree, very poètique this shots 7 Nov 2008 6:20am KIJI from valenciennes, FranceBeautiful :) A good place to read a book peacefully 7 Nov 2008 9:22am Rags from Plano, United StatesThe image makes me want to go there and have a sit. 7 Nov 2008 3:31pm Monte Stevens from Fort Collins, United StatesSimplicity! I too enjoy benches and at one time gave myself the assignment to shoot and post one bench everyday for a month. I made a trip to San Francisco that month and included all those I saw there. Well done! 7 Nov 2008 5:36pm @Monte Stevens: Thanks. That sounds like a great assignment to do. I have another favorite bench shot coming up in a few days. It is one from a park that I go to often and have shot several times in different weather conditions and times of the year. Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, FranceThis one is really nice. I'd like to seat there, with a good book, or only to dream… 7 Nov 2008 7:39pm Andrew Gould from Sydney, AustraliaWonderful light, colours and composition. You would normally think that more content would be necessary to come up with a really satisfying image. It seems that "less is more" in this case, though. Beautifully done, then! 8 Nov 2008 6:23am dominik from Paris, FranceUn banc où j'ai envie d'aller m'assoir... L'arbre est magnifique avec son jeu d'ombre... 9 Nov 2008 1:38am |
