Fisheye FootballPosted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 9 October 2008 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio. This is a high school football game I stumbled upon on my way out of the city after shooting all the photos in the Jersey City series. I had to stand on a block that just happened to be there and shoot through an iron railing. This was the best perspective I could get in among the people that were standing along the railing with me. I have to say that I thought it was a great way to end the day and the series. This is the final shot in the Jersey City series. I know it was a very long series. I pre-posted all of the shots in this series because September and October tend to be very busy months for me. I have a lot of shots that I've taken over the period of time that this series ran and it will be interesting to pick out which ones to post as the backlog of images grows and grows. See my new SLIDESHOW page. Your comments are very much appreciated. I know how much time and effort it takes to visit and leave comments. I really do appreciate them. I make every effort to reply to questions but sometimes I miss one or two and I apologize for that. If you really need me to get an answer to you quickly, the best way is to use the CONTACT button at the bottom of the page. I post the same photos here as on Capturethisphotography.com but they are higher res. and landscape orientation shots are larger size. I post only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, FranceGreat mastery of the fish-eye. I raise my hat to you. 9 Oct 2008 4:32pm @Calusarus: Thanks. @Alun Lambert: Thanks. dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesvery very very cool!!! and where are you standing? it seems as if you are 7ft tall -- or taller! faaabulous!! and i just want to dive into that blue sky! wow!! 9 Oct 2008 5:20pm @dj.tigersprout: Thanks. This field was in the city. I was standing on a cinder block near a wall that was just outside of the iron railing that surrounded the field. I was higher than the players but not by a lot. The lens is only 10.5 mm which definitely affects the sense of scale. I had to shoot through the railing and some of the railing ended up in the original because of the ultra wide fisheye so I had to crop that out to get a clean image. Jeffster from Long Island, United StatesWOO! WOW! Your certainly getting your money's worth from this lens! Wonderful image. 9 Oct 2008 5:40pm @Jeffster: Thanks. It got quite a workout. I needed if for a job and had one day to learn it and master it so I used it for most of the shots I did in Jersey City. Nina from Hamburg, GermanyThese colors are amazing, Laurie! Splendid view and great colors- 9 Oct 2008 10:17pm @Paco Díaz: Thanks. jamesy from christchurch, New ZealandFantastic shot Laurie that fisheye of yours has ahd a real workout over the last cuople of weeks. These are Fantastic shots I particularily like this one I think it is a great perspective 9 Oct 2008 10:33pm @jamesy: Thanks. The Jersey City series was actually shot all in the same day. I needed the lens for a job that I was leaving for the next day, Sunday. I wasn't able to get the lens until Friday afternoon so I really needed to learn it and master it so I could use it for the job. I shot all of them and many more that Saturday (not ALL fisheye, but many were). akarui from Kagoshima, JapanThe football players are allready big and the fish eye lens make them even bigger especially the 99 in the middle. Nice view behind on the city with nearly a straight horizon. The lines on the ground make a great perspective. Well done. 10 Oct 2008 12:01am @akarui: Thanks. With the fisheye anything in the dead center on the horizon will look "normal" at the proper distances. MaryB from Staffordshire, United KingdomThis is a dramatic effect, i think it's brilliant Laurie! 10 Oct 2008 12:23am @MaryB: Thanks. marianne from Franceon dirait une peinture naïve, c'est magnifique de netteté !!! 10 Oct 2008 12:25am @marianne: Thanks. JJ from Jersey City, United Stateslove the vibrant colors in this, wonderful fisheye capture, great perspective 10 Oct 2008 1:49am @JJ: Thanks. Barbara from Florida, United StatesThis is really a neat shot. I love the fisheye effect and the processing to the image. Your description of how you took the image makes this even more interesting. 10 Oct 2008 2:43am @Barbara: Thank you. @roentarre: Thanks. Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaLaurie this is AMAZING, I am not usually that partial to fisheye but I love this, it gives this image such a great feel, wonderful colours and detial, superb! 10 Oct 2008 11:34am @Kylie Greenan: Thanks. @Rabbit: Thanks. Yvonne S. from Tilburg, Netherlandsthis is a Wow-foto! this is truly a sublime picture! 10 Oct 2008 3:35pm @Yvonne S.: Thanks. Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaThat is wonderful. The colour and the use of those lines is spectacular. 10 Oct 2008 4:10pm @Michael Rawluk: Thanks. PhotoSam from London, United Kingdomyou know i love this series and this really is the cherry on the icing (on the cake)... but (a tiny niggle) there;s that elbow poking out of the left edge which is slightly distracting... 10 Oct 2008 5:32pm @PhotoSam: Thanks Sam...As I mentioned I had shot this through an iron railing and the fisheye has a 180 degree view, so the railing unavoidably crept into the frame, left an right. Had I cropped any more the feet of #99 would have been cut off which was a trade-off I wasn't willing to make. With the fisheye view it would be an obvious crop if I had cropped the horizon off of center horizontally. I hope that explains it a little better. Some things you have no control over so you have to make do. Oh and also I would have cut off part of #72 if I cropped any more or the owner of the elbow's leg and foot would have still been in the frame. I don't clone things out on principal other than dust spots. Jasp from Plymouth, United KingdomLooks like a nice day... the distorted views of the players is quite humorous. 10 Oct 2008 6:31pm @Jasp: Thanks. They were pretty big guys. Jennifer Hatcher from Alpharetta, United StatesAwesome perspective...love the fish eye! 10 Oct 2008 8:11pm @Jennifer Hatcher: Thanks. @Ina: Thanks. dominik from Paris, FranceSuperbe, ta photo ! J'adore l'effet de lumière au loin et le premier plan à l'ombre... Le contraste est saisissant... Les couleurs sont bien saturées... Une photo qui fait rêver... 11 Oct 2008 12:17am @dominik: Thank you. Michael from TX, United StatesWow...this is a really stunning fisheye shot. Really good composition, which is hard when shooting so wide. Great job. 11 Oct 2008 1:28am @Michael: Thanks. Andrew Gould from Sydney, AustraliaWhat an incredible effect, Laurie! Who would have thought of using a fish eye lens with this foreground! You did, though, and it's turned out wonderfully. Fantastic light, well handled. 11 Oct 2008 2:01am @Andrew Gould: Thanks. John Maslowski from Dallas,PA, United StatesWow, Laurie this is a fascinating view. Exceptional perspective and I love the background.
