A couple of weeks ago I was just shooting a few things around the house. This is my cellar door latch. The ambient light from my front door was illuminating the old wood and latch. For whatever reason it just caught my eye.
The original image appeared black and white on the LCD screen of my camera to the point where I thought the settings had somehow been changed to black and white. They hadn't but there was so little color in the image, only the slightest hint of the old red/brown maple stain on the old door. I had intended to convert this to black and white and for a moment I thought the camera had started reading my mind!
Coming back to AM3 after a long hiatus. I hope to be more active in the coming months.
@hesam: Thanks.
Way to catch that light Laurie! Well done!

@Jerry: Thanks Jerry. There is lots new so yes we need to catch up.
@alex centrella: Thanks.
Very good eye. It has a nice, rustic feel to it. I like the limited DOF and the little bit of rim lighting on the knob to help separate it from the background.

@Russ Devan: Thanks.
a beautiful shot -- softly radiant... ghostly even! wow!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks.
Locks are cool. However, when mine is UP position it means it IS locked... Its very confusing - i'm used to it the other way around. Even my hot water is on the left side of the kitchen sink. Talk bout a place made for dyslexics.
22 Aug 2008 5:40pm
@Rabbit: Thanks.
I never really thought about it. I think all my locks are like this, but I think you can set them how you want to when you install them. I always had them so they faced the direction of the way the bolt comes out of the door when it is locked. I wonder if there is a "rule" or if it is just preference?
I think the hot water is supposed to be on the left. Scratching head? Or at least all of my faucets are like that. Maybe my house is dyslexic.
@PhotoSam: Thanks.
The phot is very good for his technical details and, also, for the imaginative possibilities it opens. It's simple and misterious.

I think it's an excellent shot, very strong and very Alfred Hitchcock. I like the shadow on the wood grain.

@GJC: Thanks.
good shot! makes me wonder what's in the cellar!
27 Aug 2008 8:46am
@djedfre: Thanks. The cellar is actually pretty nice, not at all creepy or scary. There is a game room with a pool table and another room with a TV. It's the kids space where we kept all their toys when they were young. They still use it for all their video games and such. The laundry room is also down there and storage.
@Daryl: Thanks.
ha ha i had a moment... my hot water is on the left in the bathroom and on the right in the kitchen... i never know what the heck i'm trying to turn on. And yes being on the left would be better - the one in the kitchen really screws me up.
29 Aug 2008 2:07am
@Rabbit: As I tell my husband "It's your other right". We all have moments.
Charming ... the simplicity and shallow DOF combine for a really beautiful composition!
