I have no idea what these are, but they were part of a bouquet that Mark gave me for my birthday last week. I thought they were so cute and pretty I just had to take photos of them.
I've had the flu since Monday night and have been completely out of commission. I am starting to feel better but I still have a brutal cough. I've been trying to stay far away from everyone so that I don't get them sick. Jon has his school musical all this week and weekend as well as the regional orchestra concert on Sunday and I don't want him getting sick especially now.
This photo of the Bucknell Quad is a 2 page feature photo in the Summer 2008 issue of Bucknell Magazine.

I have no clue what they are either, but they add a nice splash of bright color to a dull, grey, winter's day. Happy Birthday, Laurie. I hope it was a good one. I hope you're feeling better, too.

@amy: Thanks. Yes macros are fun. I'm fully recovered. Jon's school musical and regional concert went well. He stayed healthy for the both and up until last week when he finally fell victim to a very mild case of the flu. He is much better now.
The selective lighting, with everything else dropping off into the shadows, serves to heighten the presence of these "red whatever they ares". A beautiful shot, then.
Happy birthday for last week and get well soon!

I honestly don't know what these are either, but the piece you have produced here is absolutely first-class, imho. The colour and depth of texture especially hold my gaze! Really hope you will get well soon too. Thank you again for your very kind and true comments at my blog. I appreciate them always.

I'm back... oh joy, not HIM again :)
I love the light on this. When I try these high contrast situations I usually end up with little nooks and crannies that are blown out. Well done!

@MontereyJohn: Thanks. It's good to see you. I've been way behind with everyone too. I think I was just lucky to get the lighting this way...I don't even remember exactly what I did other than use a snoot on my speedlight.
