The Fiddle Player

This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago during cider making festivities at Historic Van Campen Inn during the Van Campen Day festivities. We got there at the very end of the day as activities were winding down for the day. The smell of over-ripe apples from the cider making hung heavy and sweet in the unusually warm air. It was wonderful!

The shadows are wonderful on this - did you remove the background or did it just not show? A great portrait!

@Walt: Thanks Walt. I did not remove the background. I did normal RAW conversion adjustments to balance the color and curves in Lightroom.

There was deep shade on the grassy hill just behind him. You can see the fallen leaves in the background. If I had removed the background the leaves would have been removed as well, and I really liked how the leaves suggested Fall.

When I first saw the shot in my LCD on the camera I thought it was going to wind up in the trash and I had shot another one with a more balanced exposure but ended up liking the contrast of the deep shadow areas in this one much better.

Laurie..this is terrific. The backlighting just sets the mood. I had to take another look to see the leaves and I'm glad you left them in the shot.
