High Key Kitty

Posted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 4 September 2007 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.

This is a reach for me since I don't do photos of this nature very often. Although I do like high key images. I shot this one with the late afternoon sunlight from a window shining very bright on Missy's face.

It was difficult to get this one because she kept looking away. I had to crouch down low holding the camera with one hand trying not to shake while I was trying to keep her attention on me with the other. I had the battery grip and my heavy f2.8 28-70 mm lens on it...my poor wrist! I did end up using a fairly tight crop to get the look I was going for. It was just too hard to get it without the crop with her not being particularly co-operative.

I thought the effect was kind of cool, even though it's edgier than the kind of thing I usually go for. I knew Rob would like it, and I had shot it with him in mind. I send him lots of photos of his kitty while he is deployed and I wanted to give him something a bit different. He liked it, so that was really all that mattered.

I know the time and effort it takes to visit and leave comments and although I don't get to reply to them nearly as often as I like, please know that I do really appreciate them. You are what keeps me going. I make every effort to reply to questions but I may miss one or two and I apologize for that. As of July 2008 I have decided to post the same photos here as on Capturethisphotography.com but check the archives for photos not posted here.
