And Then There Were None

I had one blossom left on my clematis vine by my front door and now I have none. The vine looks fine and healthy, just no more blooms or buds for that matter. I am the worlds worst gardener. The only thing I manage to grow well are crabgrass and other vile weeds...sigh.

Well! I had a nice display of pansies and I should have known better than to put only pansies into the garden along with two rose bushes that need attention and were in when I came here. A couple of big bunnies came and poached on "Tiny's" territory and stripped all the pansies right down to the ground. He was too small to defend his area and just hid all day. Anyway, at least I've still got some nice blooms in pots on my patio. I think I better plant ten tons of pansies next year (they are cheap) and put something else in colorful - then the rabbits can eat pansies to their hearts content. The little tiny rabbit was only eating off one plant at a time, and by the time he demolished one the others were blooming again. Those bigger ones can strip a whole row of them if you are away for the day. Anyway, lovely clematis flower. Don't give up hope - my daughter says she kills anything she tries to grow, but the clematis all around their deck just blooms every year without any attention at all!

@Anne: I think I will be more motivated next year when my property is (hopefully) all put back together. Maybe then I will have better luck.

We've got so many rabbits here, they are everywhere!

Such a beautiful flower Laurie, I can't grows these at all! so your one up on me :) we don't have bunnies, we have snails instead and they eat everything I plant! and they're aren't so nice to look at :)

Gorgeous flower...my sister has these around her mailbox and I think they are done blooming too!
btw...got the first day of school shot...he wasn't thrilled but he managed a grin.

Beautiful flower. I'm with most of the others who replied that they can't grow clematis. I've tried several times and to no avail. They are persnickity vines, and demand just the right conditions. Some people can just drop 'em into a hole and they prosper. Not me. Hope yours is just taking a blooming "breather" and will start up again.

To all clematis gardeners: They need cool roots, put something nearby which throws a lot of shadow onto the area they root in. :-)

@Markus: Thanks for the info. That makes sense why it never got as full as I would have liked. It sits on a slab next to my door and while I keep it watered and as cool as possible, I think the late afternoon sun may be just a bit too much for it there. I will have to find it a new home.

Still a wonderful clematis photo. Don't be discouraged though. Some varieties only stay in bloom for 2-4 weeks especially if they grow on old wood. If it is on new wood where you cut the vine back every spring, you can expect longer lasting blooms and the vine itself flowering up to 8-12 weeks with some varieties!

awww - such a wonderful picture to remember the last but with... have you looked up your precious flower online yet? If not i would suggest you get to it. Theres a difference between a bad gardener and one whom is just not properly informed on what they are gardening... i found this site on Clematis Vines & hope its helpful. Cheers

@Rabbit: Thanks. I think I know what is wrong. The roots get too hot in the late afternoon. There is a lot of reflected light where it is located in the late afternoon so I have to figure out how to keep the roots cooler of ultimately move it.

My mom was a really good gardener. It just seemed natural for her. And she did teach me a lot. I just don't seem to have the knack, or maybe it's just my attention span...lol...I am very impatient.
