George Washington overlooking Parade Grounds

Posted by Laurie (New Jersey, United States) on 17 April 2007 in Miscellaneous.

This is another picture from West Point. I was walking past the arch when I saw this scene with the Cadets walking through one of the archways leading to the Parade Grounds. The archways are called sallyports. (Thank you Anne from West Point for giving me the correct term.) I had to quickly snap it as the group I was with was walking ahead of me and I was supposed to stay with them. The statue is of George Washington looking out over the Parade Grounds.

We were told an amusing story about how some Cadets were given the task of cleaning and shining the statue and they decided to polish the horses rump a little too much. They got in trouble for it. Sounded like it was pretty funny though. They are after all still college kids.
